My New HP Laptop Review

Top of the line HPLaptops

I was due for a new computer upgrade. I wanted a new laptop loaded with Windows 10. The operating system in my old laptop is Windows Vista, and this computer is now seven years old.

I had a decision to make, do I spend the money to update a seven-year-old laptop with a new operating system or do I buy a new laptop?

I decided on a new laptop so I bought the HP 17z and have had it now for more than a month. I couldn’t be happier, my new computer has a 750GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive, 6GB Ram, and a 17-inch screen.

I’m not going to try and explain all of the technical aspects because, to be honest with you I’m not a technical kind of guy. So I’ll leave all of the techie stuff to your own research.

My new laptop is thin, lightweight, and travels nicely. The system is fast and loads pages with lightning speed.

I’m very pleased with Windows 10 as I’m learning new things every day, and it has so much to offer. I decided that I really didn’t want a touch screen, but the 17-inch screen on this laptop is a dream for me.

The only complaint that I have is that when the laptop is fully closed it’s a little difficult to open, as was my old one. I can certainly live with that because it really has nothing to do with the performance of the computer.

Why did I choose and why do I recommend the HP laptop or any HP product? Because my seven-year-old laptop is an HP and is still operating just fine.

I’ve had other brands of computers in the past and they all have crashed and burned on me. My old HP has served me well, so I thought I should stick with what is working, and this is why I recommend it.

  1. The prices aren't bad either. I have HP as well, although a desktop.

  3. HP has good laptops and at reasonable prices. I'm glad that you're happy with your purchase, Sam. I have generally gone with Toshiba, but this time when I got my new laptop, I went with ASUS. Toshiba is out of the market as far as consumer laptops are concerned, but I would have ideally gone for HP. However, I couldn't get the specs I was looking for in an HP, so I went with ASUS.

  4. Sam, your review of your new HP computer is particularly interesting due to the fact that I was faced with the same decision last summer - upgrade an 8-year-old computer (as I still had XP and since that operating system is no longer supported I was having problems not being able to access certain features anymore) or buy a new computer with Windows 10. I am definitely not a 'techie' so had to get advice. My local computer repair group are great, very knowledgeable and helpful, and they explained all my options. I'm used to my desktop computer (mainly because I need a full size keyboard being a fast touch typist), so wasn't sure I wanted to get into a laptop just yet. Bottom line - I opted to upgrade my old (Dell) computer with Windows 7 with some additional RAM. No guarantee on it, since the tower is now going on 9 years old, but I'll plug away with it until it goes 'kaput' and then I will look into your HP recommendation. I'd also heard ASUS was good (Anthony). With my upgrade, I had to get a new printer (since the old Dell printer -- which I'd never really liked anyway -- would not 'talk' to Windows 7. I went with an HP printer and am VERY pleased with it (in fact, I wrote a review about it). :) I've been familiar with HP products for several years and think they have excellent products.

  5. PS: I just went and looked at the specs on your new computer, Sam - the HP 17z - and really like the fact that it has a full-size keyboard and a large screen. Two major criteria for me. I have saved this review on my Pinterest board for future reference. Very helpful to have this review as it may not be long before I'll be in the market for a major upgrade!

  6. Sam, this is an excellent review for someone looking to upgrade or to buy their first laptop. I'm as you said, not techie, but I know when it feels right and I know what features I need. For the rest, I'll leave it to the techies. Sharing this because lots of us need to know the things you point out. Thanks, Sam

  8. I would love a laptop! And I would want an HP, so good to read your review. I have an HP desktop computer (refurbished) at present that suits my needs but I would love to be able to sit at the picnic table in the sunshine with my dog while computing... laptop down the line on my wishlist!

  10. These days most brands of laptop creators have their own laptop stands as well. Laptop stands are one embellishment that guide in compelling use of laptops in homes, or some other place so far as that is concerned.best laptop stand

  12. If you bought a laptop for its portability, then another thing you should take into account is their battery type. Some types won't last more than a couple of hours, while others can extend to 6-12 hours on a single charge.
